Course Content

This webinar introduces the concept of neurodiversity, explaining how differences in thinking, learning, and information processing are part of normal human variation. We will explore the key traits and characteristics of ADHD, including how attention, emotional regulation, and communication styles may present in everyday nursing practice.

The session will highlight both the strengths and challenges experienced by nurses with ADHD—such as strong empathy, rapid problem-solving, hyperfocus, and attention to subtle patient changes, alongside difficulties with organisation, sensory overload, and interruptions in workflow.

We will also briefly outline the unique presentation of individuals who have a combination of ADHD and autism, and how overlapping traits can influence communication, sensory processing, and work performance.

Practical, evidence-informed strategies for nurses will be discussed, focusing on how to create supportive routines and environments both at work and at home. These include tools for improving focus, managing overwhelm, strengthening communication, and advocating for reasonable adjustments within the workplace.

This webinar aims to support understanding, reduce stigma, and empower neurodivergent nurses to work safely, confidently, and sustainably—while also helping colleagues and leaders understand how to better support them.

Why this Session may be Relevant to your Work

As a Nurse I work in teams. To get the best outcome for the patient I need to form professional relationships with all members of the team. If a colleague is neurodiverse then I need to understand how I can work with them so we are an effective team.
