Course Content

Immunisation programs form a core part of Australia's public health strategy, to reduce the risk of disease transmission, reduce the severity of some illness and prevent long term complications of some diseases. Although immunisation programs are not 100% effective at preventing disease, they are well validated to reduce the risk of serious disease and for most people are considered safe.

Global pandemics over the last couple of decades have ensured research continues into vaccines and infectious disease. As a result, we've seen a number of new vaccines onto the market as well as significant advances in existing vaccine technology.
These changes mean that it can be a challenge to stay up to date with what's recommended, when it's needed, and the funding arrangements available.

This session will summarise recommendations around newer vaccines like RSV and Mpox, as well as changes to recommendations for pneumococcal disease, zoster, Japanese Encephalitis, influenza and COVID: who's at risk, who should be vaccinated, and who's eligible for funded programs.
