Course Content

This is an important and extremely vital webinar for all nurses. Data is indicating an increasing incidence of cardiac arrests occurring in general wards. It is not just essential knowledge for nurses from critical care, and emergency departments but recommended for ward Nurses, Psychiatric Nurses, and Midwives.

The ALS webinar will assist you to gain an understanding of the characteristics of life-threatening arrhythmias, and recognize the characteristics of VT, VF and PEA. Knowledge of how to recognise both shockable and nonshockable arrhythmias is an essential skill required for all nurses who work in a Telemetry ward.

The content will explore both VT cardiac arrests as well as the more common cardiac arrest known as Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA). PEA cardiac arrests are increasing in incidence and every nurse must have understanding that although the monitor shows normal sinus rhythm the patient may not be stable. If the patient is in PEA, it may look stable on the monitor and alarms may not be activated but it is a life-threatening cardiac arrest.

Nurses cannot rely completely on the alarms being set on the cardiac monitors. Every nurse in high dependency areas, critical care, emergency and telemetry wards are required to have this essential knowledge and this webinar will assist you to attain it. It is also valuable for the nurse who needs extra assistance prior to enrolling in an ALS course.

Learning Outcomes
