The Code of Conduct for Aged Care

In this webinar we will explore the eight elements that describe behaviours expected of approved providers, aged care workers and governing persons of approved providers. The Code does not offer an all-encompassing inventory of behaviours that exemplify top-tier care. Instead, it furnishes a comprehensive structure of behaviour that approved providers, along with their aged care workers and governing individuals, are obliged to maintain.

Course Content

The Code of Conduct for Aged Care, known as the Code, became effective on December 1, 2022. It outlines eight behavioral guidelines that individuals such as approved providers, aged care workers, and governing individuals are expected to adhere to.

Those who have been approved to provide aged care services hold obligations under the Aged Care Act 1997 to not only follow the Code but also to take reasonable measures to ensure that both aged care workers and governing individuals comply with it.

This document provides insight into the responsibilities of aged care workers and governing individuals associated with approved providers under the Code. It also covers the range of behaviors addressed by the Code and offers practical explanations of its implications. Additionally, the guidance outlines the powers of the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (the Commission) in terms of overseeing and enforcing the Code.

In this webinar we will explore the eight elements that describe behaviours expected of approved providers, aged care workers and governing persons of approved providers.

The Code does not offer an all-encompassing inventory of behaviors that exemplify top-tier care. Instead, it furnishes a comprehensive structure of behavior that approved providers, along with their aged care workers and governing individuals, are obliged to maintain.

The primary objective of the Code is to guarantee that all recipients of aged care, regardless of the source, can maintain confidence and reliance on the quality and safety of the care they are provided.
