Course Content

The content of this webinar is considered to be essential knowledge for any nurse working in the areas of ward telemetry, coronary care, critical care and emergency nursing. It is also applicable for all nurses and midwives wanting to enhance their knowledge on the interpretation of of this arrhythmias.

Atrial Fibrillation is the most common arrhythmia throughout the world and is now a common co-morbidity found in clinical practice, and even increasingly in pregnant women and young people. The longer AF goes undetected, the more difficult it can be to treat. This highlights the importance of the nurses role in patient assessment, as it will be the skilled nurse or midwife who identifies atrial fibrillation and refers the patient to the medical officer for intervention.


In addition this webinar includes role play by two presenters who will demonstrate how to assist and educate the novice nurse about assessment skills with the identification of Atrial Fibrillation.

  • Gain an understanding of the pathophysiology of atrial fibrillation
  • Recognise how to identify atrial fibrillation on a rhythm strip
  • Gain an understanding on the key assessment skills that are required when assessing a patient with suspected atrial fibrillation
  • Examine the complications that can occur with undiagnosed atrial fibrillation
