Course Content

Hypertension and type 2 diabetes are common comorbidities. Hypertension is twice as frequent in patients with diabetes compared with those who do not have diabetes.

Patients with hypertension often exhibit insulin resistance and are at greater risk of diabetes developing than are normotensive individuals. The major cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetes is cardiovascular disease, which is exacerbated by hypertension.

This webinar will discuss the risks of cardiovascular disease caused by macrovascular and microvascular effects of diabetes mellitus and hypertension and treatments (pharmacological and lifestyle) to reduce adverse health events.

Learning Outcomes

In this session, you will:

  • Gain an understanding of macrovascular and microvascular impacts to cardiovascular health
  • Understand the impact of inflammation and the immune system on diabetes and hypertension
  • Identify treatments (both pharmacological and lifestyle) to reduce the risk cardiovascular disease with hypertension and diabetes
  • Understand the need for early identification and treatment hypertension and insulin resistance to reduce cardiovascular disease
