The Leadership Walkaround and the impact on Culture

Leadership walkarounds (LWs) have been advocated as a method to influence operational, cultural, and safety outcomes in practice. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies that have specifically assessed the effects of LWs on these outcomes within the healthcare industry.

In this CPD session we will explore the current research and the possibilities to improve not only patient safety but the culture of the organisation.

Course Content

Leadership walkarounds (LWs) have been advocated as a method to influence operational, cultural, and safety outcomes in practice. Nevertheless, there is a lack of studies that have specifically assessed the effects of LWs on these outcomes within the healthcare industry.

When conducting Leadership Walkarounds (LWs), frontline workers are encouraged to openly communicate patient safety concerns. This enables senior leaders, possessing organisational insight and decision-making authority, to promptly address and enforce changes in response to these issues.

In essence, if successful, LWs have the potential to enhance patient safety and organisational outcomes by fostering trust and shared accountability between leaders and frontline workers, empowering the latter to share their experiences and swiftly address impending hazards.

In this CPD session we will explore the current research and the possibilities to improve not only patient safety but the culture of the organisation.
