Course Content

Diabetes carries a significant disease burden in Australia. For people living with autoimmune or type 1 diabetes, treatment is essential for life. For people with type 2 diabetes, treatment is essential to reduce the risk of complications like cardiovascular disease, retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy.

But with the increasing array of treatment options available, which one is the most suitable? What do these medicines actually do? Does choice of agent really matter? Are some combinations more effective at reaching treatment targets than others?

This session will cover the pathophysiology of diabetes and the way medicines work to lower glucose. We look at each class of medicine, to understand how it works, when it's useful and what we might need to watch for.

This session will be useful for anyone dealing with patients with not just diabetes but other chronic conditions like CKD or cardiovascular disease.
