The rise of substance abuse means that there is an increase of patients that I work with who require information and support in regards to the use if illicit substances and the ongoing impact on their health.

Course Content

Substance use disorder (SUD) is on the rise throughout the world and creating significant public health problems. Health professionals must be well-prepared to address the needs of individuals struggling with these issues.

Unfortunately research data is indicating that many nurses are not always equipped with the knowledge and skills required to address substance abuse and related issues. These patients with their unique problems are now found in many areas of nursing and maternity. Lack of knowledge and skills has an impact on the provision of care. Nurses and midwives are in key positions to assist, educate and provide support when addressing substance abuse issues.
